Woodsville

Serena at I see you see is hosting the Location, Location, Location blogfest today...

Looking for cool shade in summer, brilliant folliage in fall, pines blanketed with snow in winter, and bubbling brooks in spring? Woodsville provides all of these and more. Lose yourself among the fir trees, gather hazelnuts and chestnuts, and discover clearings blooming with wildflowers of every color. Each season Woodsville bursts with life in its various forms. Come reconnect with nature!

* * *

Autumn weather started really early here this year, back at the start of August. We've had cool temperatures, lots of rain, and very little sunshine (but today is an exception--the glare of sunlight on my computer monitor makes it doubly hard to force myself to stay inside and work).

But there's an upside.

The color of the fall foliage this year is the most intense I have ever seen (or can remember seeing, at any rate). I've been carrying a camera with me everywhere for the past week, wanting to capture the bold reds, oranges, yellows, even pinks (yes, pink leaves!). And since they make me happy, I thought I'd share them with you.

What's your favorite season? Why?

  1. Around Philly it looks mostly dry and brown, since we had about a MONTH with no rain. Aaannd now the rain has arrived in force. The week I decided to start bicycle commuting again. Of course. Not that I'm bitter or anything. :)

    Also, lovely photos, good lady!

  4. Simon: I am impressed that you bike to work. I am a fair-weather bike-rider, although I did buy a rain cape last week, so I might start using that mode of transport more frequently.

    And thanks. :)

    T. Anne: I grew up in Colorado, where it's dry, there are few trees, and fall color is generally brown. But since moving to cooler areas with more rain, I have come to love fall, too. :)

  5. Woodsville is the popular selection.... but who can resist the sound of it! Nice description. I'm so jealous you get to watch all the leaves change.... must be gorgeous! That doesn't happen here in FLA.

  7. Such beautiful photos. I do love fall, and we're hitting the mountains this weekend for aspen peeping.

I'm not sure I could pick a favorite season. I love them all for different reasons, but by the end of each one, I'm usually ready for the next.

  8. Serena: It was fun, thanks for doing it!

PK: Given the leaves here, I couldn't choose anything else. :) I love living where we have four seasons.

cpl3333: Oregano's one of my favorites, too. I seem to go through a lot of it.

Julie: Thanks! My parents said the aspens are turning brown because it's been so hot and dry. Which is sad, since that's all the color you get in Colorado. I'm with you--I love four seasons because I'm always ready for the next one. :)

  9. Toss-up between winter and spring, so I'll way sprinter! :)

I like curling up nice and warm at home with a mug of hot tea while admiring the snow in winter. Love it when it snows enough to settle, and I love being outside in a snow shower. A fresh blanket of snow always makes things look so clean and white and pristine. Oh, and to be able to spot a red-breasted robin in the snow always makes my winter!

Then again, I love the explosion of colours in spring when all the flowers bloom, and I enjoy critter-spotting as the rabbits and squirrels and birds and foxes all come out of hiding. Even the odd April shower doesn't dampen my spirit! Because hey, summer's coming! And of course, Easter is in spring. Chocolate related seasons are always good seasons!

  10. J.C. I'm torn between spring and fall. I'm not a fan of extreme temperatures (hot OR cold), so these two suit me just fine. And the palette of colors that's so widespread in both seasons just makes me smile.
